“Skill to do comes of doing…” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)\
Homework is a major part of any student’s life. From preschoolers to university students, homework exists in various forms. The purpose of is to provide a necessary means of application and practice for students. At some point, homework can become extremely tedious especially when one reaches a more advance stage of study. There is just so much to learn that homework coupled with the necessary revision can cause to some extent premature aging and also deprivation of sleep. However, the negative consequences of not being able to fulfill these tasks are to an extent that students in general push themselves to complete them. In higher education, the danger of drowning in a pile of homework is unfortunately very real. Students constantly face conflict in life due to the mass of homework provided by the well meaning teachers. Even so, it is necessary to be able to complete a fair amount of work on time as the benefits of finishing the homework and presenting it on time are innumerable.
However tedious homework may be one realizes that it is an avoidable duty to at least try to complete it. The system of education is such that renders homework an unavoidable part of life. To manage all this work and still live a fruitful life is not easy. A good student with great time management skills and an ability to resist procrastinating is an ideal individual in facing situations that involve a lot of homework coupled with relentless tests and datelines plus the needs to continue living a normal teenaged life. We all understand how important it is to excel in studies due to the general belief that academic excellence is a foundation for a successful life.
Completing homework or assignments on time is a great way to hone time management skills and to provide one with the vital qualities needed in life such as responsibility and discipline. The strict management of time needed to survive in the battlefield of school or university also churns out graduates who are responsible and adaptable to high pressure situations. Homework moreover tests one’s endurance level and challenges mentally as well as physically. Homework is a bridge that joins schools and parents. From the school’s perspective it is also the opportunity to monitor students’ independent progress. For parents it enables them to gain a greater appreciation of education and to express positive attitudes towards their children’s achievement.
A negative attitude towards homework needs to be avoided. Instead, one should look at homework in a positive way as a beneficial activity and part of the learning process. This will enable. The long and short of it is that homework is a dreaded but unavoidable word in a student’s vocabulary and that it certainly pays to complete work given on a daily basis. The habit of task fulfillment will never go to waste. Still, if all the scholars in the world were given less homework, a lot of trees would be saved.
